Chaplain Johnnathan R. Ward, MDIV, is a senior staff chaplain with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA), Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Service, Atlanta, GA.
He walks daily in the trenches with children and families as they journey the difficult stages of a cancer diagnosis. He understands the exceptional challenges that families face and the spiritual support so needed.
As the coordinator for Wellness activities in the Aflac Cancer Center at CHOA's Egleston Hospital, Johnnathan designs and leads staff support programs, retreats, and workshops. These programs aid in the retention of staff, and help to lessen the impact of “compassion fatigue.”
He is a much sought after workshop and retreat leader dealing with grief, caring for the caregiver, and remembering your child through rituals.
Johnnathan has served as a chaplain in the hospital, military, and substance abuse environments. He has served as a pastor, missionary in Africa, and coordinator for the State of Georgia’s Responsible Fatherhood Program.
He seeks to live by the spiritual teaching, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” He is married to Vashti Maharaj-Ward for 17 wonderful years and they have two children Shivani and Sahadev.
